Baggs Square Brewing Company Brings German Beer to Utica

When you can’t get on a plane to celebrate Oktoberfest in Munich, grabbing a pint at Baggs Square Brewing Company in Utica is a close second. About the Brewery Jenn Earl and her husband spent some time in Germany and fell in love with the German beer culture. Upon returning to their hometown of Utica, they had a dream to bring German beer home. After they found a location in the historic Baggs Square district in the old Doyle Hardware building, their dream became a reality. Baggs Square Brewing Company officially opened in the peak of the pandemic - in June 2020. With the help of head brewer David Marcolongo and her staff, Jenn has created a beautiful urban taproom...

Big aLICe Finds a Third Home in the Finger Lakes

One of the newest breweries in the Finger Lakes is not new to New York. Big aLICe Brewing originally opened in Long Island City in 2013. But this year they added a new taproom and brewing spot in Geneva. About the Brewery When co-founders Kyle Hurst and Scott Berger first opened Big aLICe Brewing, they started on a 10-barrel system using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The brewery has grown a lot over the years, both in size, experience, and number of locations. The pair opened a barrel room in Brooklyn in 2019 before starting the new venture in the Finger Lakes. But as they continue to grow, the owners continue to be creative and experiment with small batches. When Kyle and...

Tappo Wood Fired Pizza x Thin Man Brewery

It’s Friday evening. I’m beat, the sun is down, and I look up to a sky filled with bright, twinkling stars. I’m out of the Buffalo city lights and off the beaten path. The November air is crisp as I walk down a dark and industrial Chandler Street toward the Tappo Wood Fired Pizza x Thin Man Brewery restaurant I have heard raved about but hadn’t yet experienced. My friends in Buffalo are either out of town or working late shifts, so I’m riding solo. I’m tired and seeking something low-key with solid food and quality beer in a casual and relaxed environment.     I walk through the doors of 166 Chandler Street in the Black Rock...

The Beer Keep - Buffalo

After the Texans were sent home to Houston following the largest franchise win by the Buffalo Bills, and again before the Bills took on the Kansas City Chiefs, I endeavored on walks in the rain with friends to the 1000 block of Elmwood Avenue in Elmwood Village with our sights set on The Beer Keep.     The Beer Keep opened in mid-September, and with 170+ beverages and 100+ cold canned and bottled beers ready to be enjoyed on-site or purchased to-go, The Beer Keep’s selection is incredibly diverse. Carrying quality beer is a must for any restaurant or watering hole hoping to entice patrons and keep them coming back (especially in Buffalo), and so many establishments do...
