About the Brewery
Jenn Earl and her husband spent some time in Germany and fell in love with the German beer culture. Upon returning to their hometown of Utica, they had a dream to bring German beer home. After they found a location in the historic Baggs Square district in the old Doyle Hardware building, their dream became a reality.
Baggs Square Brewing Company officially opened in the peak of the pandemic – in June 2020. With the help of head brewer David Marcolongo and her staff, Jenn has created a beautiful urban taproom and biergarten in Utica. The original brick wall provides charm behind the bar, and there is plenty of room to hang out and drink – both indoors and out.
Beers & Food
Baggs Square started out with the classic German beers, including altbier and hefeweizen. But they’ve since expanded to sours, IPAs, and even seltzers. They have something for everyone’s palate.
Much like the beers and the inspiration for the brewery, most of the food at Baggs Square is German-inspired. You can go traditional with a soft pretzel and beer cheese, or switch it up with schnitzel and spaetzle. Plus there’s the non-German options, including wings and Swedish meatballs. But whatever you choose, it’s bound to be delicious.
Events at Baggs Square
Since the brewery is located at a prime location in downtown Utica, across from the famous Union Station, they are often the site of many local events. Baggs Square occasionally closes off the parking lot next to their building to host events in the summer and fall. The brewery celebrates its anniversary in June. Then October is filled with Oktoberfest and a Halloween dinner. Plus there is live music at the brewery, and other community events in the district year-round!
As most other breweries and restaurants in the area, Baggs Square also adds trivia, taco nights, and brunch to their calendar. So be sure to check their social media for any special happenings before you visit.
