Iam not sure when the trend started, but Arabic coffee shops are popping up across Upstate New York, and Albunn in Rochester is a standout. From fruit-shaped desserts to Basque cheesecake and Yemeni Adani tea, it’s become my favorite arabic coffee shops in Rochester.

Upstate New York’s Rising Trend: Arabic and Middle Eastern Coffee Shops

I’m not sure when the trend started,  Middle Eastern or Arabic coffee shops opening up here in Upstate New York. It feels like it really took off in the past year. Places like Albunn are a perfect example, and they seem to be expanding pretty quickly. And I can understand why. The level of excellence inside of places like Albunn is frankly unlike anything I’ve seen at most of the restaurants—or at the very least, coffee shops—in New York. In fact, these coffee shops are so pristine and beautiful and the products they serve, are so wonderful that I seriously questioned if I was in a national franchise. But they are not. These are local independently owned businesses, at least most are.

The Viral Fruit-Shaped Desserts

Albunn serves the viral fruit-shaped desserts that now seem to be popping up everywhere. I believe at Albunn they get them from a local bakery in Rochester called Special Occasions. The desserts are visually stunning, practically too beautiful to eat. And while the flavors are enjoyable, I found myself wishing they had a little more pop to match their appearance. Not that they taste bad, but after seeing such artistry, your expectations naturally rise. Or maybe my taste and sweet tooth is desensitized.

Right now, the Mango dessert seems to be the hottest one on the menu. But my personal favorite was a chocolate mousse and raspberry creation shaped like a rose. The balance of chocolate, fruit, and delicate pastry made it a standout, and honestly, it’s the best I’ve had in this style. These desserts are the perfect companion for a coffee or tea and make for an Instagram-worthy visit.

A Cheesecake That Stands Out

While the fruit-shaped desserts catch your eye, Albunn’s Basque Cheesecake is the real showstopper. Dense, sweet, thick, and nearly perfect, it hits every flavor note you want from a perfect cheesecake. The “cheese” delivers both sweet and savory qualities, creating a rich, indulgent experience that lingers on your palate. If you’re a fan of desserts that balance richness with finesse, this cheesecake is not to be missed. It’s otherworldly in my opinion.

Dessert-Inspired Coffee Done Right

Albunn also nails the coffee. Their Biscoff Latte is pure comfort in a cup—rich, cozy, and just indulgent enough to feel like a treat. The warm espresso blends perfectly with steamed milk and creamy Biscoff spread, creating notes of caramelized sugar, cinnamon, and toasted spice in every sip. Topped with light foam and sometimes a drizzle of melted Biscoff or crushed cookies, it’s a drink that feels tailor-made for cold mornings or slow afternoons.

If you’re someone who loves dessert-inspired coffee without overwhelming sweetness, this latte hits the sweet spot beautifully. It’s the kind of drink that makes you want to linger, take a deep breath, and just savor the moment.

Yemeni Adani Tea: A Traditional Favorite

Of all the drinks I’ve tried at Arabic coffee houses in Upstate New York, Yemeni Adani Tea is my favorite. This warm, aromatic blend feels both comforting and deeply rooted in tradition. Made by simmering black tea with milk, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and a touch of sweetness, it delivers a bold yet balanced flavor with layers of spice in every sip.

The spices give the tea a gently warming quality, making it perfect for slow mornings or cozy evenings. Rich, fragrant, and soothing, Adani tea isn’t just a drink—it’s an experience that invites you to slow down, take a pause, and savor the moment. It’s exactly the type of beverage that makes these coffee shops more than just a place to grab a caffeine fix; they’re spots for comfort, ritual, and connection.

Why Albunn Stands Out in Rochester

Out of all the Arabic coffee shops I’ve visited in Rochester, Albunn is my favorite. From the carefully crafted desserts to the expertly made drinks, everything is thoughtful, high-quality, and inviting. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service is attentive, and the menu strikes a perfect balance between familiar flavors and unique offerings.

Whether you’re a fan of dessert-inspired coffee, traditional Middle Eastern drinks, or just enjoy discovering new local spots, Albunn is worth the visit. Make sure to get out there and experience it for yourself—you won’t regret it.
