The B-Side in Fairport isn’t sticking to just one lane. Italian comfort dishes, Puerto Rican classics, empanadas, sandwiches, it’s all there, and it all hits differently. Here’s what happened when I visited.

The B-Side in Fairport: Where Italian Classics Meet Puerto Rican Comfort

Some restaurants play it safe with one cuisine and stick to it. The B-Side in Fairport doesn’t do that. Their menu stretches across Italian favorites, Puerto Rican staples, and a handful of dishes that fall right in between. Not in a chaotic way, more like, “Why pick one when we can make all of them delicious?”

My friend Bryan from Capone’s Italian Eatery brought me out to meet his friend at The B-Side last week. I stopped in before they opened, and they sent out a lineup of dishes that covered both sides of their menu. And by “lineup,” I mean a legitimately impressive spread of comfort food, color, spice, and some of the most craveable textures I’ve had in a while.

This wasn’t a small tasting. This was a full-on tour.

Stuffed Peppers With a Twist

They started things off with their stuffed peppers, but not the version you’ve had 100 times. These come packed with a full meatball, one that leans heavy on parmesan cheese and parsley, giving it that rich, old-school Italian flavor right out of the gate.

On top of that meatball? Roasted eggplant.
Then a slice of prosciutto.
Then melted cheese pulling everything together.

It’s layered, it’s hearty, and it somehow still eats clean. The roasted eggplant gives it depth, the prosciutto gives it salt, and the meatball gives it that big comforting bite that feels like it should come from a Sunday dinner.

Roc Riggies: A Spicier, Crispier Take

Their Roc Riggies were next, and this was one of the dishes that surprised me most. Instead of the usual grilled chicken, they chop up crispy chicken cutlet and toss it right in. It makes the whole dish texturally different, crunchy edges, juicy centers, big flavor.

But the real kicker is the cherry peppers. These aren’t shy little peppers thrown in for color. They’re spicy, bright, and they bring the whole dish to life. It’s everything you love about chicken riggies but with more attitude and more bite.

Puerto Rican Comfort at The B-Side in Fairport

Then came the Puerto Rican dishes, and honestly… this is where I officially got hooked.

Roast Pork With Rice and Beans

I’m not exaggerating when I say this was probably my favorite thing I ate all week. The roast pork was incredibly tender, juicy, flavorful, and so well seasoned. And then there’s the skin: ridiculously crispy. The kind of crispy that crackles when you pick it up.

The rice and beans were equally standout. I don’t even have a long explanation for them, they were just extraordinary. No notes. Perfect.

Housemade Beef & Cheese Empanadas

These empanadas came out hot and packed with beef and cheese inside a housemade shell. The outside had the perfect crunch, and the inside was melty, comforting, and well seasoned. This is the kind of dish that’s instantly craveable and easy to understand why it’s a customer favorite.

The Three Little Pigs: A Sandwich With No Apologies

If you’re a meat lover, you’ll find your happy place with this one.

The Three Little Pigs stacks:

  • Roast pork

  • Grilled ham

  • Crispy bacon

  • Lettuce

  • Tomato

  • Mayo

It’s a big sandwich, not oversized, but bold. When I first took a bite, I thought it might be a little heavy on the pork. But the longer I sat with it (and, honestly, as I sit here writing this), the more I keep thinking about it. It’s one of those sandwiches that hits harder after the fact. You crave it again before you even realize why.

Final Thoughts

The B-Side in Fairport has something that’s actually hard to find: a menu that spans cultures but doesn’t feel scattered. Everything has intention. Everything has flavor. And everything I tried, from the stuffed peppers to the roast pork to that layered Three Little Pigs sandwich, left me thinking about the next time I’m heading back.

If you like Italian comfort food, Puerto Rican staples, or just places that cook with confidence, this spot belongs on your list.
