Ican’t think of a place that has more of what I love. A restaurant that is comfortable and cozy, dimly lit, has wonderful live music, fine drinks, and a delicious menu. Visiting Tambour brought me right back to my visits to the Blue Wisp and added so much more to those memories.

Going Out: Dinner at Tambour Bistro & Wine Bar

We often get asked for recommendations on where to go for dinner, drinks, coffee, and almost anything that involves eating or drinking. So we have decided to introduce a new blog to Eat Local New York where we will talk about some of our favorite places to eat and drink around New York State.

Let’s start with a new favorite that we discovered in Brooklyn, New York called Tambour Bistro & Wine Bar.

There was a Jazz Club in Cincinnati that I used to visit when I was in town and spending time with my cousins. It was called the Blue Wisp. I loved going to the Blue Wisp when I was in town. It was a dark room with a bar and a small stage. We’d often go to listen to the Phill DeGreg Trio perform. We’d order coffee and frequently step outside to smoke a cigarette between songs. Keep in mind, that I was maybe 16 years old and found these trips to the Blue Wisp to be the most romantic and nostalgic. Something about a dimly lit room with wonderful music playing. I haven’t found a similar experience in years..that is until visiting Tambour.

While Tambour Bistro & Wine Bar isn’t a jazz club that only serves drinks, I can’t think of a place that has more of what I love. A restaurant that is comfortable and cozy, dimly lit, has wonderful live music, fine drinks, and a delicious menu. Visiting Tambour brought me right back to my visits to the Blue Wisp and added so much more to those memories.

We visited Tambour for dinner one evening while in Brooklyn. We scanned the menu looking at all the options but we ended up taking our recommendations on what to order from Nick. We started dinner off with the mixed greens salad with apple slices, mixed nuts, and a house-made red wine vinaigrette. For appetizers, we enjoyed the Salmon Tartare with avocado, cucumber, soy sauce, sesame oil, cilantro, and wasabi aioli. We also had the Mussels in Broth with garlic, tomatoes, white wine, and a crispy baguette. These were both wonderful options for starters. The Mussels in Broth were to die for! Fresh mussels in a broth that should be bottled and sold by itself. We could have stopped there and been happy..but we didn’t.

For our mains, we enjoyed the “Tamburger”. Angus beef, fontina cheese, caramelized onions, a special Tambour sauce, on a brioche bun with fingerling potatoes. This was easily one of the best burgers we’ve EVER had. From the fontina cheese to the caramelized onions..it’s absolutely delicious. And at just $20, it’s a steal for how amazing this burger really is and how much comes on it.

We also had the Ottomanelli’s Hanger Steak with a chimichurri sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, and vegetables. A wonderful dish that was just enough food following our delicious appetizers.

If you are out in Brooklyn (or visiting soon) and are looking for a wonderful place for dinner and music, then make sure to plan a trip to Tambour Bistro & Wine Bar. You will find live music Thursday – Sunday with new bands coming in often.

You’ll also find a wonderfully cozy restaurant with beautiful reclaimed features from artwork and woodwork to the restroom ceiling that is reclaimed wood from Coney Island Boardwalk.
