If you’ve ever looked for a brewery atmosphere that feels like you’re camping in the woods with your best friends, you’ve got to check out Stump City Brewing in Gloversville.

About the Brewery

Their story begins much like other breweries, with a love of craft beer and a passion for homebrewing among a group of friends and family. Brothers Matt & Nick Sherman, their father Jerry, and their friend Casey Oare began brewing all the way back in 2004. They pooled their tax return money to get their first brewing system. After years of enjoying the craft, Matt decided to get some formal training before they decided to pursue their dream.

When the plans became serious, the group started looking for a place to build their brewery. And what better place than their own backyard? That’s right, Stump City Brewing was built from the ground up in the backyard of the Sherman family home. It officially opened in early 2017.

Dedicated to their roots, the brewery was named “Stump City” after the nickname for Gloversville. With their location at the edge of the woods, it couldn’t be more perfect.

Stump City Beer

Operating on a 5-barrel system and a farm brewery license, the Stump City crew focuses mostly on ales – pale, brown, cream, etc. But if you’re there when Secret Cider is on tap, you’re in for a treat! The sweet seasonal brew is incredibly delicious – and goes down a little too easy. Enjoy it!

Their other treat is their hard seltzer, which they make without any flavor in it. Before you question why, it’s because they let you choose your own flavor! With nearly a dozen different fruity options to choose from, you can mix and match to create your own favorites.

The Mill Rats Mug Club

Members of the Stump City mug club are known as the “Mill Rats”. As a mill rat, you get your own glass to use at the brewery – which also comes with larger pours. Plus you get discounts on merch, access to pilot batches of beer, and an invitation to the yearly member appreciation barbecue. But the best perk of being a mill rat? You’re treated like a member of the family. A trip to Stump City Brewing is like a trip home to visit your loved ones.
