It all really is in the name: Tater Tot Heaven.
I went here last year and got one of their tater tot buckets — honestly, I don’t even remember which one it was — but thanks to all of you, apparently it made a difference. And I don’t say that to brag. I just make videos and try to make them engaging. It’s the people who watch them, then actually go out and support these vendors who make the difference.
When I was at the booth on Day 1 of The Fair, one of the employees came up to me. He was actually the guy who served me last year, and he wanted to say thank you. He told me that after last year’s video came out, they got incredibly busy. All of a sudden, they had triple the number of people they’d seen before, and people kept referencing that video and ordering the same thing. That’s pretty awesome.
Yeah, it’s the New York State Fair and it’s a lot of fun. But there are real people behind these booths and restaurants who are banking on having a good, successful Fair. They spend a lot of time coming up with ideas, being creative and making food that people actually want to eat. So hearing that one of these vendors had a great day because you guys watched a video and then showed up? That’s really rewarding and means a lot.
I Gave Them $100 and Said, “Feed Me”
This time, on Day 1, I went up and handed them a $100 bill and told them just to give me whatever they thought I should have. And they gave me a lot of food.
I had everything from the Strawberry Lemonade, to their Mac & Cheese bowl with Pulled Pork on top, to a bottle of Gatorade, and then four different Tater Tot buckets. Now, these Tater Tot buckets are huge — they could easily feed two grown adults as a full meal. So $100 might sound like a lot, but all of the food I got could probably feed 10 people.
The Tater Tot Buckets
First up was the Dill Pickle Tater Tot Bucket — crispy tater tots with a really dill-forward sauce, chopped pickles and buffalo sauce on top. That one was incredible.
Then there was the Spicy Buffalo Chicken Tater Tot Bucket with pulled chicken, ranch, buffalo sauce and pickled jalapeños.
I had another bucket topped with Macaroni and Cheese and bacon.
I even had their Monster Bucket, loaded with tater tots, Mac & Cheese, bacon, pulled pork, sour cream and chives.
All of them were hits but that Dill Pickle bucket was my absolute favorite. That thing was simply incredible — so creamy and delicious, with all of the dill coming forward, the chopped pickles, and that layer of crispy tater tots. I could eat that thing every day at The Fair. It was absolutely delicious.
I highly recommend checking Tater Tot Heaven out. They’re between Gate 1 and Gate 4, over near Peachey’s Donuts.
