Toss & Fire pizza has been a Syracuse favorite for the last 10 years, growing from a small wood-fired pizza trailer to one of the largest pizza businesses in the area. With three brick-and-mortar locations and multiple food trucks, it’s hard to attend an event in Syracuse without spotting their pizza truck. Their passion for pizza is obvious in every bite, and their menu continues to evolve with exciting new options.

A Decade of Growth and Flavor

It’s been incredible to watch Toss & Fire grow over the past decade. I’ve been following them since their early days when they served wood-fired pizza from a pull-behind trailer in neighborhood parking lots. Fast forward 10 years, and the business has expanded into three full locations across Syracuse, with food trucks appearing at events all over the city.

They’ve maintained a focus on quality and community throughout the growth, making it easy to see why locals keep coming back. The menu balances classic pizzas with creative specials, and their dedication to the craft is evident in every slice.

Restaurant Week and the Detroit Style Pizza

Toss & Fire will be participating in Eat Local NY Restaurant Week presented by The Summit Federal Credit Union, which is the perfect excuse to check out some of their latest creations. I visited recently to try their newly updated Detroit-style pizza.

While they’ve offered Detroit-style pizza for a few years, they recently reworked the recipe to improve flavor and texture. I went with the Honey Pot Detroit-style pizza, which comes with:

  • Pepperoni

  • Cherry peppers

  • Fresh basil

  • Mike’s hot honey drizzled on top

The combination of spicy, sweet, and savory is excellent. Even if you’re not focused on every detail like I am, you’ll notice this pizza delivers a satisfying flavor punch. For someone like me who pays attention to those details, the difference from the version a year ago is noticeable and delightful.

Passion in Every Slice

I’ve known Nick, the owner of Toss & Fire, for a few years now, and I don’t know many people who have a general passion for pizza as much as he does. I can think of about six others that I’ve met in my life. Nick’s dedication to perfecting recipes, exploring new styles, and sharing his love of pizza with the Syracuse community is inspiring.

That kind of passion has fueled the growth of the business and translated into pizzas that are consistently excellent. From classic Margherita to New Haven and Detroit-style pies, every option reflects a deep understanding of flavor, texture, and the joy of sharing food with others.

Why You Should Visit

If you haven’t been to Toss & Fire yet, I highly recommend visiting one of their locations. Whether you’re in the mood for their updated Detroit-style pizza or their New Haven-style options, you’ll find something memorable.

The experience isn’t just about the pizza; it’s about the love and care that goes into making it. Each pizza is crafted with attention to detail, balancing ingredients and flavors in a way that keeps people coming back again and again.

Food trucks make it easy to try their offerings at festivals and local events, so even if you can’t make it to a brick-and-mortar location, there’s almost always an opportunity to grab a slice.

A Syracuse Favorite for Every Occasion

Toss & Fire’s growth over the last 10 years is a testament to their dedication, creativity, and commitment to the community. From neighborhood pizza nights to large-scale events, their pies bring people together.

Participation in Restaurant Week gives everyone a chance to taste what makes Toss & Fire stand out. Whether it’s a casual lunch, a date night, or a family gathering, their menu has something for everyone. And for pizza lovers, the Detroit and New Haven styles are must-tries.

Toss & Fire has proven that great pizza comes from a combination of passion, quality ingredients, and a willingness to innovate. Ten years in, they’re still setting the standard for Syracuse pizza, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
