This cocktail is a perfect autumn drink. It is gritty from the apple butter, sweet, dark, and smooth. It tastes like the autumn vibe we’re all looking for. Pour yourself one or two of these cocktails, sit by a campfire, and put on some tracks from Tyler Childers.  You’ll be glad you did.

Are you ready for the perfect autumn cocktail?

Are you thinking of cozy nights on the couch? Wearing an oversized sweater, snuggled under a blanket, watching a favorite show or movie? The heat is on and the window is open and the crisp autumn air is making the vibe just perfect. Maybe your pumpkin or apple pie candle is also lit on the coffee table. If you can imagine that scene then you can imagine what comes with every sip of The Harvest Cocktail, the perfect autumn vibe.

This is an easy enough drink to make. It may require a little extra effort with the cinnamon syrup, but that’s easy enough to make. So, let’s start there.

I make my cinnamon syrup in two ways. Here is the first way.

Ingredients:
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
10 cinnamon sticks

Instructions:
Combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan and place on the stovetop over medium heat.
Whisk sugar and water together until the sugar is dissolved and the syrup is clear.
Let the syrup come to a simmer and then add in 10, broken cinnamon sticks.
Stir together and let simmer for 10 minutes.
Let syrup cool, pull cinnamon sticks out, and transfer to a glass bottle to be kept in the fridge.

The second way is easier to make but the syrup is thicker and not necessarily the best for this cocktail. But a wonderful syrup I use in bourbon cocktails.

Combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 3/4 cup of water in a glass bottle and shake vigorously until the sugar is dissolved.
Add in 5 cinnamon sticks, broken in half, and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon powder,
Shake vigorously for 5-10 minutes.
This makes a rich cinnamon syrup that’s perfect for an old-fashioned and other drinks but is a little too thick for this cocktail.

Now, let’s get down to the cocktail at hand.
How to make The Harvest:
Add the following ingredients into a shaking tin.
.5 oz Cinnamon syrup,
1 large bar spoon of apple butter,
2 oz. Cognac,
Add ice and shake vigorously in a shaking tin for 30 seconds,
Double strain into a chilled coup glass (or any glass you’d like to drink from).
Add two amaro-soaked cherries and enjoy.

As always, I get my liquor and spirits at Pascale’s Liquors in Liverpool or Pascale’s Wines & Liquors in Fayetteville. Make sure to check them out when you’re shopping for wines or liquors.
